HOMOgeneous

HOMOgeneous is a series of portraits exploring both similarities and individuality within a particular gay subculture. All of the models are of a certain age and have been chosen carefully to call into question commonly heard misconceptions such as “They all look the same” or “Are you brothers?”.

The men have been photographed in high resolution giving an extraordinary level of detail. The unusual crop of the images makes the sitters even more present as they fully fill the frame. The resulting images teeter between intimacy and confrontation, leaving the viewer feeling both inspected and challenged at the same time.

The portraits were taken over a period of three years in different locations across Europe and the US. All models identify themselves as either gay or pansexual. The deliberate decision to photograph the models without clothing removes any distractions. Small personal elements, however, such as jewellery, tattoos, etc., remain. These highlight that we are not all the same and hint on what makes each of us unique.
